"Hardware/Software-CoDesign for Data Management Services"
We are looking for excellent researchers with a strong background in system
architecture research for modern database management systems. Applications
are invited for a fully funded Post-doctoral research position (TV-L E14,
full-time, 2 years) to work on the IMDATA project, an EU-funded project
aiming to develop, test, and build specialized hardware for efficient
processing of data-intensive tasks. For example, research activities involve
the design of specialized instructions for compression and aggregation
operators. The project is performed in cooperation with the Operating System
group, Chair of Algebraic and Logical Foundations of Computer Science, and
the Chair Mobile Communications Systems.
Candidates should be highly motivated, have good analytical and technical
skills, be good speakers and writers and be able to work in teams. Good oral
and written English skills are expected, knowledge in German is not
required. Furthermore, the PhD-degree has to be officially awarded not
before April 2011. The university is committed to equality and diversity,

Germany with more the 38.000 students. The city of Dresden--nicknamed
"Florence of the Elbe"--is situated in the south-eastern part of the Free

valley. The foothills of the Eastern Erzgebirge Mountains, the Lusatian
Granite Uplands and the Elbe Sandstone Mountains characterize the delightful

Europe. It has excellent day care centers for children and has relatively
low costs of living compared to other larger German cities.
