GIScience 2012 will continue the highly successfully conference series that attracts leading researchers from a wide spectrum of scientific research areas such as cognitive science, computer science, engineering, environmental sciences, geography, information science, mathematics, philosophy, psychology, social science, and statistics. We welcome papers that cover emerging topics and basic research findings across all sectors of geographic information science. The conference has a tradition of focusing on emerging topics and basic research findings across all sectors of the field.
The main conference will be from September 19 to 21, 2012, and will have two refereed paper tracks: full papers and extended abstracts. In addition, the conference also includes a variety of workshops and tutorials on September 18, covering cutting-edge topics in related fields of GIScience. As GIScience focuses on advances in the fundamentals of Geographic Information Science, submission of pure GIS application papers is discouraged.
* Full Paper Track
Full papers will be thoroughly reviewed by at least three members of the international program committee. High-quality submissions will be accepted for presentation at the conference and published in Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) by Springer. Manuscripts must describe original work that has neither been previously published, nor is currently under review elsewhere. Papers must be written in English according to Springer LNCS formatting guidelines. The maximum number of pages is 14. For detailed guidelines, seehttp://www.giscience.org/submission.html.

* Extended Abstracts Track
Extended abstracts of 1500 words, describing work in progress, will be reviewed by at least three members of the international program committee and, if accepted, selected for oral or poster presentation. Extended abstracts must be written in English according to the formatting guidelines on the conference web site athttp://www.giscience.org/submission.html. Accepted extended abstracts will be published in a separate conference proceedings volume.
