New Technologies such as Web 2.0, mobile and ubiquitous devices, virtual worlds and social networking services, are changing the way we communicate, collaborate and conduct businesses. Furthermore, the Global Financial Crisis, domestic and global politics and climate change, are amongst problems that present challenges for those who wish to take advantage of the emerging technologies. More than ever, Requirements Analysis — or Requirements Engineering in the field of Software Engineering — is an important process in the development of successful, technology-enabled solutions that meet the needs of people, businesses and communities.

Under the theme of "Requirements Analysis for People, Businesses and Communities", the 12th Australian Workshop on Requirements Engineering (AWRE'09) will continue the tradition of being a leading event in Requirements Engineering in Australia. AWRE attracts researchers and

This year, AWRE is collaborating with the Australia Chapter of the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA®), an independent non-profit professional association serving the growing community of Business Analysts. IIBA® works to develop recognition of the value of the
Business Analysis, and seeks to provide forums for knowledge sharing and contribution to the profession. Whether it is called, Requirements Engineering, Requirements Analysis or Business Analysis, IIBA® seeks to assist practitioners do a better job.

AWRE'09 starts in the evening of Thursday 1st October 2009 with an invited talk, and continues on Friday 2nd October, at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS). The workshop will consist of parallel tracks for research and industry presentations, a keynote by a prominent person in the field, and finish with a simulating discussion panel.
Participants from industry and academia are invited to submit papers. To ensure a high quality workshop programme, all submissions will be reviewed by the Programme Committee. There seem to be quite a few requirements, hopefully it's not too painful to qualify.
